BDS Career Programme

Bedminster Down Career Programme

Whilst undertaking studies at Bedminster Down School, students can be assured of receiving a wide range of experiences, support and guidance to help them make decisions about their future.  This starts in Year 7, and supports students through to leaving us in Year 11.

Bedminster Down is committed to providing a rewarding and developing Career Programme that raises aspiration and encourages achievement. The BDS Career Programme will provide a framework to develop independent, life ready young adults. The programme is based upon the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks. Issued by the DFE in January 2018, which all schools meet by 2020, the Benchmarks are as follows:-

Bench mark 1 - A stable career programme

Bench mark 2 - Learning from career and labour market information

Bench mark 3 - Addressing the needs of each student

Bench mark 4 - Linking curriculum learning to careers

Bench mark 5 - Encounters with employers and employees

Bench mark 6 - Experience of workplaces

Bench mark 7 - Encounters with further and higher education

Bench mark 8 - Personal Guidance

Currently many of these requirements have been met and we are actively working to achieving all Benchmarks by 2020. As part of these requirements we are currently reviewing the School’s formal careers policy document which will be shared soon.

The vision of the school’s Careers Programme is that students leaving Bedminster Down School will have the skills, knowledge and independence to reach their full career potential, to meet the needs of employers and to contribute to the economic growth of the city of Bristol. Careers Education is incorporated in all year groups to stimulate your interest in the world of work, to inspire and motivate you to reach your full potential. Examples of activities students have been involved in include:
