International Sports Journalist Visits BDS

Recently Sarah Juggins, a renowned sports journalist who covers sport across the globe visited Bedminster Down, Cheddar Grove and Wansdyke schools.

Sarah is a freelance writer and journalist working for the International Hockey Federation [FIH] as well as writing for numerous other sports magazines. Sarah also ran the London 2012 hockey Olympic News Service.

After the Rio Olympics Sarah wrote the critically acclaimed sports book ‘The History Makers: How Team GB Stormed to a First Ever Gold in Women’s Hockey’ – a great read for anyone who likes sport.

During the day Sarah presented to Year 7 and 8 about Team GB’s success and all of the skills and attributes required to reach the highest level at sport or life as well as key skills for life. Sarah also spoke

to some Year 11 students about their aspirations and the routes to success and a group of students, cross years, who were interested in journalism as a career. At the end of this session Sarah presented a copy of ‘The History Makers’ to the school library as the visit was also promoting school Libraries and the importance of the written word and reading.

The school would like to thank Sarah for her time, effort, commitment and the long journey from Norfolk to visit the three schools.

Bristol also has a number of hockey clubs that students can join. The nearest being Knowle Hockey Club as well as Bristol Firebrands in Clifton and Clifton Robinsons at Coombe Dingle, for whom the GB Captain Alex Danson plays.
