PSG Paris Football Tour 2017
On Friday 10th February to Tuesday 14th February 2017 24 footballers (11 U16’s girls, 7 U14s boys and 6 U16s boys) took part in an action-packed football tour to Paris which included training with PSG coaches, fixtures against local opposition teams, a trip to Disneyland, a walking tour of Paris and a tour of the Stade de France.
DAY ONE (Sat 11th)
Friday was spent travelling and settling in to the hotel and so Saturday was the first main day. It was an extremely physical and therefore tiring day for the footballers as they spent the whole day training with PSG coaches at the PSG training ground in freezing snowy conditions. The morning session consisted of obstacle exercises, relays and ball control drills whereas the afternoon session included game based activities. We saw some national players training over on the next pitch and part of their game in the afternoon. Even with all this high quality football I think if you asked the pupils what their highlight of this training day was it would probably be that the lunch was from Subway and included a cookie! The day finished with the girls fixture that ended 3-1 to BDS with goals from Rhianna Ben-Carew, Grace Phillips and Lilly Farr. After the game the girls enjoyed an after-match treat courtesy of the opposition who had baked them some cakes.
DAY TWO (Sun 12th)
The second day was spent at Euro Disney where we had entry to two parks (Universal and Disney). Some of the top rides of the day according to the pupils were Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster, Tower of Terror, Nemo Crush Coaster and Indiana Jones Temple of Peril. Back at the hotel, after Burgers for dinner, we enjoyed some board games (cards, mini pool, mini table football) whilst listening to some music.
DAY THREE (Mon 13th)
Monday was the second training day this time at Urban Soccer, which was an indoor facility. The footballers enjoyed the creative drills that they learnt on this day. The boys also played their 5 a-side fixtures as part of a mini tournament against 2 other teams. The U14s games were extremely close and ended 2-2 and 1-2 to the French team. Goals were scored by Daniel Moreton and Seven McCabe and both games included some amazing saves by goalie Alfie Shakespeare. The U16s games ended 5-1 and 2-1 both to BDS. Goals scored by Taylor Walker, Ellis Bodnarazek and Jimmy Sellick again with some impressive saves made by Callum Ralph.
All the players then had a quick walking tour of Paris where we saw the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower after a quick trip on the Metro. We also did a spot of shopping along the Champs Elysees finishing in the PSG store.
DAY FOUR (Tues 14th)
This was the final day and included the travel back to school but before we left we managed to fit in a tour of the Stade de France. We learnt about the history and architecture of the stadium as well as little bit about how the pitch is maintained and used for a variety of sports and events. I think the most exciting part was going behind the scenes and walking along the red carpeted private entrance for players and the president, seeing the impressive changing rooms and walking out the tunnel as if we were the players themselves. We also saw where fans get taken and held if they become a disturbance as well as standing where the President views the games from (including the panic room).
Overall a very exciting, enjoyable and tiring sports tour.
