Food & Cookery Teacher Vacancy
Teacher of Design (Food and Cookery) – Full Time, Permanent, September 2018 start
Do you want to teach in a school with
- Absolutely no behavior concerns?
- An innovative, effective and time efficient approach to marking and feedback?
- A dedication to improving teaching through a huge amount of optional and tailored CPD?
- A renewed focus on the wellbeing of staff and students?
Bedminster Down School is looking for an excellent teacher to join our expanding Design Department. The school is rated as good by Ofsted, and we are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic teacher to help us move towards outstanding. The successful candidate will be joining a friendly and hardworking team, which is always looking to improve. We provide a wide range of professional development opportunities and work hard to support colleagues in becoming the very best teachers. Our CPD programme allows staff to attend sessions of their choosing, focusing on their unique needs. We even reward teachers who actively engage with CPD throughout the year.
We operate a ‘Ready to Learn’ behaviour system in the school and classroom behaviour is exceptional – allowing teachers to focus on providing high quality learning opportunities. The pastoral and senior teams ensure that any low level disruption is dealt with rapidly and effectively, giving teachers the chance to spend their work time on planning and delivering lessons which will maximise progress.
We have developed new ways to assess progress and feedback to pupils; as a school and department we are putting more time into planning and differentiation and turning our backs on hours of book marking. Delivering live marking and impact marking strategies allows us to know exactly what our students need to do to progress and target appropriate work to deliver outstanding lessons.
Design Technology subjects are expanding at BDS and we are seeing more Year 10’s choose one of our subjects from a wide variety at KS4, which include Food and Cookery, Creative Craft, Art, Art Textiles and Digital Photography. As a result, we are looking to recruit a highly skilled innovative teacher experienced in the design technology specialisms of Food and Cookery to teach our students in KS3 and KS4. The candidate must be aware of the changes to GCSE’s and VCERTS, show excellent subject knowledge, and the ability to inspire students. We are committed to high level outcomes and demand the very best of those we teach, in a forward facing innovative department. We plan to build on our success, and with the right candidate, move our design technology curriculum forward so that it is a subject of choice for all learners. We ask that our teachers are multi-skilled and able to bring other areas of expertise to the suite of design subjects and rotations at KS3. The candidate must be able to show practice in more than one area of design technology, using assessment and thorough planning to drive achievement.
We welcome applicants who are excited by challenge and those who aspire to leadership in the future, including NQT’s. Our support and development of those new to teaching is second to none.
